TxDOT Urges People to Stay Indoors as They Prepare For Winter Storm

TxDOT crews in the Abilene and Brownwood Districts have continued to monitor road conditions throughout the day.

From the Texas Department of Transportation:

TxDOT crews in the Abilene and Brownwood Districts have continued to monitor road conditions throughout the day. Roadways are reported as mostly clear with patchy ice in some areas, although a few counties are reporting that light rain is now falling.

All equipment has been serviced and is ready for the night crew to monitor road conditions and begin clearing roads as another storm approaches. Bridges and overpasses have been pre-treated and will continue to be monitored.

According to the National Weather Service, a significant storm will move back into the area overnight and produce accumulations of ice and sleet throughout a widespread area in the western half of the state and possibly beyond. The wintery precipitation is expected to affect roadways throughout Sunday and into Monday morning.

Drivers are strongly advised to avoid traveling until conditions improve. Those who must drive should use extreme caution and be alert for emergency responders and TxDOT workers who are on the roadway responding to incidents. Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and remove all distractions to avoid wrecks or becoming involved in secondary collisions.
