Tye homeowners learned that their property is considered commercial, not residential, after an ordinance passed in 2006 that many said they didn't know about. That ordinance meant they could only sell their property to commercial buyers, not residential buyers.

A few said they found out after they tried to sell their homes, and couldn't due to the ordinance.

Locals brought this to the attention of the city to get it changed. The planning and zoning committee heard public concern and proposed a change to the ordinance. The city council met and accepted that change.

The new ordinance will allow Tye homeowners in that commercial area to sell to both commercial and residential buyers.
