Update: Driver Killed Thursday in Fiery I-20 Crash Identified

The man driving an 18-wheeler hauling Ashley Furniture who died after his vehicle fell from an I-20 overpass in Callahan County has been identified.

The truck driver that died Thursday morning after his vehicle fell from an I-20 overpass has been identified as 42-year-old Michael D. Merritt of Winona, Mississippi.

A man driving an 18-wheeler hauling Ashley Furniture is dead after a fiery crash in Callahan County.

The accident was reported around 5 a.m. at Mile Marker 307 East of Clyde along I-20.

According to DPS, the driver may have fallen asleep, causing the truck to lose control. The truck then veered off, hit the barrier and fell off the overpass, hitting the concrete wall below.

The truck was transporting the furniture from Mississippi, though the destination has not yet been determined.

The driver's name has not yet been released. We will have more as it becomes available.
