The Abilene Fire Department has released more details on the fire that consumed one building, along with several vehicles.

At 1:30 Wednesday morning, Abilene Firefighters responded to a large residential garage fire in the 600 block of Ross Avenue. The building was “fully involved” upon their arrival and a second-alarm response was requested.

Firefighters worked to extinguish the main fire, while protecting an adjacent apartment and neighboring properties from fire spread. Downed power lines hampered operations, but responders were able to confine most of the fire damage to the garage and attached carport. The occupant of the adjacent apartment was able to escape without injury.

The garage, considered a loss, contained numerous vehicles. The apartment suffered heat and smoke damage and the occupant’s vehicle, parked nearby sustained significant fire damage and was crushed when the burning carport collapsed.

There were no injuries reported and there is no cost estimate of the damage as of this report. The cause of this fire is under investigation.
