Voting Nears a Close for National "Salute to Senior Service" Contest

This week wraps up Home Instead's "Salute to Senior Service" national contest and one last Abilene volunteer is being recognized for giving her spare time each and every week.
Volunteering for multiple organizations a day can be a lot to handle, but for Shirley Stephenson, it's just another walk in the park.

Stephenson spends her weeks delivering hot lunches to folks all across Abilene for Meals on Wheels. That's of course right after she  helps out at her church, Elmwood West Methodist Church, who have been spending the week preparing for large weekend garage sale.

Now, Stephenson is one of a few Big Country residents that have been nominated in a national contest for this year's "Salute to Senior Service" award. An opportunity that she was very grateful to receive when she found out both her neighbor and an employee at Meals on Wheels had nominated her.

Aside from helping others, Stephenson also enjoys the personal benefits of volunteering and strongly believes it's something everyone should try at least once.

This is the last week you can vote for your favorite nominee in the "Salute to Senior Service" contest. The voting period will close Tuesday, April 30th.
