The United Way of Abilene is warning Abilene seniors about a commercial reportedly running in the Abilene viewing area which provides false information about the 2-1-1 service provided by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.

According to the warning, the commercial is advertising for a service called “Social Security 2-1-1” and states that if seniors over 50 pay $1.46, then they will be given access to government supplements in the form of gifts, deals and various programs.

The commercial then provides a website, offering a trial subscription to the service, as long as the person provides their credit card information.

It should be made clear that this commercial has no affiliation with the actual 2-1-1 service which is free, and provides information to callers regarding both state and local health and human services.

For more information on the 2-1-1 service provided by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, visit the 2-1-1 website here.
