Some very special women with an historic connection to the Big Country will get special honors during a nationally-televised New Year's parade.

The float will honor the women who served as Women Air Service Pilots (WASP) during World War II.

They trained at Avenger Field in Sweetwater. The parade will be in the Rose Parade in Pasadena, California.

The National WASP WW II Museum in Sweetwater helped the organizers find women who served in the program to ride on the float, and provided some shirts for the women to wear in the parade.

The women flew the planes to their delivery destination with the U.S. Army Air Corps during the war.
