An historically significant new documentary is scheduled to be shown for the first time Thursday night at the Paramount Theater in downtown Abilene.

The documentary follows the story of Lieutenant Colonel William Edwin Dyess, the World War II hero for whom Dyess Air Force Base is named.

Dyess was an Albany native who served as a fighter pilot and a Marine during WWII.

He's credited with an attack that sank several enemy ships, and as an infantryman who helped lead an escape from a Japanese prisoner of war camp.

There is no charge for attending the documentary.
