The Eastland Police Department is finishing up their investigating of claims that kidnapping and assault suspect Clayton Fought should have already been in jail before the attack on a pre-teen girl back on January 5.

Fought is the man who was charged with abducting, sexually assaulting and violently attacking the girl on the day before her twelfth birthday. She was treated for her injuries at Cook's Children's Hospital in Fort Worth.

A woman alleged that Fought had also assaulted her two daughters several years prior, and police had investigated the charges in June of 2013. However, she alleges that investigation got left on a desk, leaving Fought free to hurt another child.

The Eastland City Manager said that they will be done with the internal investigation into the Eastland Police Department by Friday, January 17.

City Manager Ron Duncan said to the Eastland City Council this week that the city will take appropriate action to make sure criminal complaints are promptly completed, and delivered to the district attorney for prosecution.
