The National Weather Service in San Angelo has issued a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow which is in effect from 6 a.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday. The Big Country counties of Nolan, Fisher, and Stonewall are included in the warning. Abilene is not included in the warning.

A winter storm warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet, and ice are expected. Strong winds are also possible. This will make travel very hazardous.

An upper level storm system will approach West Texas late Sunday and then sweep through the area Monday. The system will bring the area precipitation chances through Tuesday morning.

Meteorologists predict the majority of snowfall will occur Monday for an area north and west of a Sterling City to Anson to Haskell line. Snowfall totals of 2 to 5 inches are possible.
