An Abilene man who witnessed a robbery take place at a convenience store Friday night says everyone was lucky the situation didn't get any worse.

Jacob Gonzalez was picking up items at the Allsup's on South 1st when a man identified as Armando Carmona tried to steal beer. He says the clerk asked him to pay, when he attempted to leave again, that's when the situation got heated.

According to Gonzalez, the female clerk grabbed the man to stop him from leaving. As a result, Carmona shoved and punched her in the face.

Gonzalez tried to stop the beating by grabbing a bat from another clerk and hit Carmona on the back.

KTAB's Kimberly Sears spoke to Gonzalez who feels the clerk was just trying to do the right thing.
