Mercedez is a product of the Big Country through and through. She was born at Hendrick Hospital in Abilene, grew up 20 miles down the road in Anson and graduated from Abilene Christian University with a bachelors degree in journalism in 2017.
Her interest in professional newswriting began in high school where she participated in media-related competitions through the Anson FFA chapter, placing among the top ten teams in the state several times. This interest continued through college where she served at ACU’s student newspaper The Optimist, and began freelance writing for local news publications.
Mercedez also has an interest in creative media producing and can often be found writing fictional short stories, scripts and crafting photoshoots with friends.
Mercedez is honored to work alongside the same faces she grew up watching on the evening news as a child and strives to uphold KTAB’s dedication to providing viewers with coverage they can count on.
