Travis Ruiz

Travis Ruiz is the News Director for the leading media organization in the Big Country – KTAB, KRBC, Telemundo Abilene and BigCountryHomepage.com. Travis is responsible for the daily and strategic operations of the newsroom.

Travis has been a part of the KTAB/KRBC family since February 2017 after being Assistant News Director at KVII in Amarillo, Texas. He’s also lived in Colorado Springs, Colo., while working for KXRM. Travis started his career back in Amarillo, also at KVII.

In his career, Travis has done nearly every role in a newsroom, including reporter, anchor, producer and social media/digital manager. From being a part of a National Edward R. Murrow award-winning team, to covering two national political conventions, Travis is passionate about news that affects people in their everyday lives.

Originally from Guymon, Okla., Travis understands the importance of local news to small, growing communities. He attended West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas, studying Mass Communications.

Being involved in the community is paramount to Travis. He is the current Board Chairman for Big Brothers Big Sisters Abilene and the Board Chairman for the Hispanic Business Council. Travis also serves on the Board of Directors for the Abilene Chamber of Commerce, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and the Abilene Convention & Visitors Bureau. Additionally, Travis is active with Abilene Young Professionals, Abilene Downtown Association and many other local organizations.

Travis received the prestigious recognition of being named to the  “Top 20 Under 40” by Abilene Young Professionals in 2020.

In his free time, Travis works on perfecting his Spanish and practicing the guitar.

Travis is most proud of his three beautiful nieces.
