ABILENE, Texas (KTAB) – It’s almost time for the single most important night for the West Texas Rehabilitation Center.

“We’re doing the busy work, so then everybody will shine afterwards,” says volunteer, Angie Nelson.

The Rehab Telethon is the largest fundraiser for the non-profit organization. It wouldn’t be possible without dedicated people like Angie Nelson.

“I love working for the Rehab because I believe very strongly in their mission and to me, it’s a win-win situation. When I work or volunteer for the Rehab, not only am I having fun with my fellow volunteers, but I feel like I’m accomplishing something for the community and that’s very important to me,” Nelson says.

Nelson is going on her 10th year as a volunteer for the Rehab., “We get the inserts, we get the plastic to put the information in there and then we organize them according to category.”

Right now, Nelson and a team of volunteers are preparing all of the signs for the auction.

Nelson adds, “The big things are done by other people. But we’re happy to do what we can to help.”

The Rehab Center provides care for people without any costs. It wouldn’t be possible without the generous donations it receives through fundraisers like the Telethon.

Nelson says it is rewarding to be a part of it, “It just makes me feel like this is the way America should function, helping one another.”

She’s willing to help wherever she’s needed and plans to continue volunteering year after year.

“As long as I can. As long as I can put one foot in front of the other,” says Nelson.
