ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – An Abilene mother has been arrested after her toddler was injured when she crashed driving 80 miles per hour down a residential road while under the influence of meth and alcohol early Thursday morning.

Angelina Pena, 22, has been charged with DWI w/Child and Injury to a Child/Reckless Bodily Injury.

An arrest report states Pena called police just after 2:00 a.m., said she was in an accident, and when officers arrived at her location on the 2400 block of N 14th Street, they found her holding a 3-year-old child who was suffering from a life-threatening head injury.

The report states Pena told officers she was driving through a residential neighborhood at 80 mph when she crashed. She then admitted to being under the influence of alcohol and methamphetamine at the time of the crash.

Pena also, according to the documents, stated her child was not strapped in while she was driving that fast because “she did not care what happened.”

Pena is being held in the Taylor County Jail on bonds totaling more than $30,000.
