ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – An Abilene couple has been arrested after a bungee cord was used to choke an autistic child until he turned blue.
Danielle Tankersley, 38, and Jimmy Tankersley, 41, were taken into custody Sunday and charged with Injury to a Child. Jimmy is also charged with Assault.
A report filed with the Abilene Police Department states multiple witnesses saw the Tankersleys assault both their 12-year-old autistic son and another 19-year-old son.
These witnesses say the 12-year-old boy wanted to get a ball from the top of a car, which prompted Jimmy to slap the child while Danielle wrapped him up in bungee cords and put him on the porch, according to the documents.
The documents state that Danielle then told the boy she would wrap a cord around his neck if he moved, and when he stood up, she placed the cord around his neck and began choking him until he turned blue.
The boy’s older brother tried to stop the situation, but when attempted to push Danielle off the boy, the documents state Jimmy slapped him and slammed him into a wall.
Prior to the Tankersleys’ arrests, Jimmy told multiple witnesses to lie to police about what happened, according to the documents.
Both Tankersleys were released from jail after posting bond.
