ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A suspect accused of beating an Abilene convenience store clerk so he could steal a pack of cigarettes has been arrested.
Rodney Monse, 53, was arrested Friday and charged with Aggravated Robbery, Criminal Trespass, and Interference with Emergency Request for Assistance, in connection to the incident, which occurred at 7-Eleven on the 1200 block of Grape Street.
An arrest report states Monse was creating a disturbance at the store because he wanted to buy a pack of cigarettes but was told to leave due to a no trespassing order.
Monse refused to leave and continued to make a scene so the clerk call 9-1-1.
While she was on the phone, the report states Monse began hitting her on the head with his fist, then started punching and kicking her.
He then threw large beer cans at her before taking the pack of cigarettes then fleeing, according to the report.
The clerk did have to receive treatment for her injuries at the hospital.
Monse is now being held in the Taylor County Jail on bonds totaling $56,000.
