MERKEL, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – The Texas Rangers are investigating an alleged criminal offense committed by a Merkel City Council member.

Interim Police Chief Phillip Conklin confirmed his office received a complaint regarding a current elected City of Merkel official, though he did not disclose the name of the official, as no formal charges have been filed.

Chief Conklin relayed the information to the Taylor County District Attorney, who requested assistance from the Texas Rangers.

“Currently, because of the sensitive nature of this investigation and to maintain the integrity of the investigation and for the protection of the victim, this agency is not releasing any information regarding the identity of the elected official, the alleged offense, nature of complaint or the victim’s identity,” a press release from Chief Conklin reveals.
