AUSTIN, Texas (KXAN) — A baby is in critical condition after police say someone shot multiple times through a family’s front door Sunday night, hitting both the baby and a man inside.

The man, whom police say they believe is the baby’s father, was treated and released from the hospital.

This happened at 11:11 p.m. Sunday at the 1800 block of Wooten Park Drive near the intersection of West Anderson Lane and Woodrow Avenue.

Police believe a gunman or gunmen walked up to the door of an apartment and opened fire, shooting the man and 10-month-old infant. A woman who was in the apartment with them was not hurt, police say.

Both victims were transported to the hospital by Austin-Travis County emergency medical personnel. As of 8 a.m. Monday, police say the baby boy is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries and his father was treated and released.

Investigators initially believed the attack was a drive-by shooting but they now say the shooter or shooters were on foot and that this appears to be an “isolated incident.”

No details have been released yet on potential suspects. Residents will see a police presence in the apartment complex and surrounding areas for a few more hours Monday morning as detectives investigate.

Police urge anyone with information about the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 512-472-TIPS (8477) or provide anonymous tips on their website.
