Abilene Among Top 10 Most Dangerous Cities in Texas

FBI crime reports show Abilene to be among the top ten most dangerous cities in Texas.

Abilene ranks the seventh most dangerous in the state, according to the FBI data. The numbers come from 2014 crime statistics per 100,000 citizens. Nine categories are recognized by the report: violent crime, murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, property crime, burglary, larceny-theft and motor vehicle theft.

Other cities in the top ten list include Amarillo, Lubbock, Odessa, San Angelo, San Antonio, Laredo, Texarkana, Houston and McAllen. Odessa is considered to be the most dangerous city in Texas, according to the report.

Here’s a breakdown of the report. These numbers reflect the total crime rate of each city per 100,000 citizens:

  1. Odessa: 9,390
  2. Lubbock: 9,382
  3. Texarkana: 9,224
  4. San Antonio: 9,205
  5. Amarillo: 8,797
  6. Laredo: 8,305
  7. Abilene: 8,137
  8. San Angelo: 7,712
  9. Houston: 7,551
  10. McAllen: 7,390

The following includes the 2014 crime statistics per 100,000 citizens for the city of Abilene:

  • Violent Crime: 400.1
  • Murder and Nonnegligent Manslaughter: 5.9
  • Rape: 66.8
  • Robbery: 82.7
  • Aggravated Assault: 244.7
  • Property Crime: 3,668.4
  • Burglary: 844.0
  • Larceny-Theft: 2,583.9
  • Motor Vehicle Theft: 124.8
