ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Abilene police are now investigating a Saturday morning homicide on the city’s south side.
The suspect is in police custody. The victim was identified as 23-year-old Robert Henry.
Police said the incident was related to drugs.
Officers were first called to the Bent Tree Apartments just before 9 a.m.
Police said 22-year-old Travis Moore called police saying he heard a loud banging on the door. Someone was apparently beating on a door. When he went to open his door, he described being pummeled.
“What we do know is a significant physical altercation occurs inside the apartment,” said Abilene Police Chief Stan Standridge. “At some point the suspect (the deceased) pushes Travis into a window.”
Standridge said the altercation led to the victim being shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Drug contraband evidence was found inside the apartment. Moore was taken into custody on an unrelated drug charge. Police also said Moore was involved in a previous assault back in June.
Moore was taken to a local hospital for his injuries. Following his release, he will be interviewed by detectives.
This marks the 5th official homicide of 2018 in Abilene.
