ABILENE, Texas (KRBC)-After a Merkel native passed away unexpectedly, friends and family decided to join together to put on a benefit by taking one last motorcycle ride in Dustin “Dusty” Logan’s honor.

“I was rolling up and I looked over here and seen all the bikes and all the family, it just gave me chills.” Said Ronnie Stamper, the Stepfather.

After 32-year-old Dustin “Dusty” Logan passed away, Scharla Lokey decided to organize a Poker Run and benefit in  hopes to raise money for Logan’s four children and wife.

“It’s just also a celebration of Dusty’s life, the family can say there farewells and help them get back on their feet at the same time.” Said Lokey.

The group met up at Free Ride Motorcycles located off of South 1st and traveled together to four other destinations including the VFW in Merkel and ended up at Firehouse Bar and Grill in Abilene to conclude the benefit.

“They’re struggling right now, a couple of them, they’re needing a little bit of help.” Said Stamper.

The outpouring of support was more than Stamper could ever imagine.

“How the community comes together and just the support it just, i love it, it brought tears to my eyes.” Added Stamper.

He says his step son’s heart of gold and love for riding will always be remembered.

“He was an angel before he was gone, he’d do anything in the world for anybody, he just went home to get his wings.” Continued Stamper.

Friends of Dusty say that though he may not be here physically, he is looking down and the rest of the crew and is going to be so proud that everybody came.

“Watching the family just join together and help, it just means the world to me.”
