Big Hearts: Volunteering to Organize Art Exhibits

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB) – The saying goes, “Beauty is in eye the beholder.” But, when it comes to the Adult Art Competition at the West Texas Fair and Rodeo, Chairman, Pat Neff says, it’s all beautiful.

“That’s the reason that I would hate to be the judge. I have judged some smaller areas around here but I would not judge this one,” says Neff.

Instead, she volunteers to organize all of the art submissions, making them presentable for the public, “We have it categorized. It’s an orderly thing. We put it out and then we go down and put the numbers in places that won.”

It’s around her 7th or 8th year helping out, but Neff’s love for art goes back much further than that.

“I was an art teacher in Merkel for 21 years and I love art,” adds Neff.

Even though she may no longer be in the classroom, she’s still passing her love of art onto others.

Neff says, “A lot of people think it’s just coloring in a coloring book and there is so much more to it because of the creativity and different things that they’re learning from that.”

Neff’s responsibilities may not be on the payroll, but She says it’s definitely a rewarding responsibility, “I seeing the art coming in. It’s just amazing me to see the talents and how they’re using it.”

You can view the art pieces in the Modern Living Mall beginning Friday, September 9th.
