A commercial vehicle caught fire while traveling down Interstate 20 in the Big Country Monday morning.

The incident happened at mile marker 310 in Baird just before 9 o’clock.

The driver of the cement truck involved said he believes some oil leaked and ignited the flames.

He attempted to put out the fire himself, but his tire blew out in the process, sending him into the interstate and giving him some pretty bad cuts that were treated on scene by the citizen’s emergency services.

The Baird Fire Department was able to put the fire out within twenty minutes. The frame of the truck is a total loss. The cab and engine appear unaffected.

No injuries, besides the driver’s cuts, have been reported.

The Callahan County Sheriff’s Office was also on scene.
