Cooper HS Teacher Continuing to Recover after ‘Welding Accident’

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A Cooper High School teacher who was injured in a welding accident last week continues to recover.

Family members of welding teacher Bobby Williams say he’s making progress. They did not provide any further updates as they are requesting privacy during his recovering process.

Abilene ISD confirmed Mr. Williams was demonstrating welding on a barrel when he was injured on Tuesday, October 11, 2016. No other injuries were reported but a few students were sent to the hospital for a ‘precautionary’ check-up.

Mr. Williams was transported from the scene fo the accident to Hendrick Medical Center then later arrived at a burn unit in Lubbock to continue recovery.

A GoFundMe page has been established to aid Mr. Williams’ recovery process. School officials are aware of the donation page, and Abilene ISD says, “we are always grateful when the community demonstrates such tremendous support of our teachers, especially during this difficult time.”
