$225,000 in drugs seized during traffic stop in Abilene

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - An estimated quarter of a million dollars in drugs was seized during a traffic stop Saturday morning in Abilene, according to police. 

Two people were arrested. They were identified as 29-year-old Nicole Lynn Ortiz and 24-year-old Justin Adrian Maldonado. Both are charged with 3F Possession of Marijuana and Ortiz is also charged with SJF Possession of Methamphetamine. 

Police said a vehicle was stopped along Interstate 20 on Saturday. During the investigation, a K-9 was called in and alerted on the vehicle. 

A search of the vehicle revealed 50 pounds of marijuana hidden in the vehicle. Ortiz was also found to be in possession of meth. 

Police said it is believed the drugs were coming to Abilene for distribution. The street value was estimated at being $225,000.

Ortiz is being held on a combined $15,000 surety bond. She has a history of drug arrests. 

Maldonado is being held on a $10,000 surety bond. He also has an arrest record to include drugs and burglary.

The Abilene Police Department's Special Operations Division, along with the Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol and Criminal Investigations Division conducted the stop.
