ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – An Abilene Christian University student and a young man were killed in a motorcycle crash Friday morning.

Jessica Renae Richardson, 21, of San Antonio, and Michael Benjamin Ross, 25, of Crowley, were both pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash on the 2400 block of N. Treadaway Blvd just before 9:00 a.m., according to the Abilene Police Department.

Police say Ross was driving the motorcycle north when he veered into a concrete culvert, and struck a telephone pole. Both he and Richardson were ejected upon impact.

“Neither rider was wearing a helmet,” a social media post from Abilene police reveals.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

ACU sent the following message to students, faculty, and staff in light of Richardson’s passing:

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

It is with deep sadness that I share news with you of the tragic passing earlier today of one of our students. Jessica Richardson, a 21-year-old senior from San Antonio, died in a vehicle accident this morning in Abilene.

Jessica, who was majoring in advertising/PR, was a member of women’s social club Alpha Kai Omega and also participated in Freshman Follies, Sing Song and FilmFest, and was on the Dean’s Honor Roll.

An informal gathering at the Chapel on the Hill (Onstead-Packer Biblical Studies Building, second floor) is planned for 3-4 p.m. today for those who wish to participate in a time of prayer and remembrance. ACU Counseling Center staff will be available at that time, and also can be reached by emailing counseling@acu.edu or by calling 325-674-2626.

We will devote time together in Chapel on Monday morning to remembering Jessica and the ways in which she made a difference in the lives of others. There will be an opportunity during chapel to write a note to Jessica’s family.

Please join us in prayer for Jessica’s family and friends during this difficult time.

In Him,
