ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A man who was sentenced to 20 years after being convicted of sexual assault of a child in 2001 was arrested again last week after contacting his victim.

According to Abilene Police, 54-year-old Karl Craig was arrested March 21 after police received a report that he was using Facebook messenger to contact a victim he sexually assaulted back in 2000.

Craig, a registered sex offender, was convicted of sexual assault of a child in Feb. 2001 and sentenced to 20 years. He was released on parole in 2016 on mandatory supervision, according to police.

A news release states detectives with the Abilene Police Cyber Crimes unit confirmed that Craig was using a Facebook account he had not registered.

Officers executed a search and arrest warrant at his home for failure to comply with sex offender registry, a third-degree felony with a $10,000 bond. He was also arrested for a parole violation with no bond, according to police.

He is currently being held at the Taylor County Jail.
