EASTLAND, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - Food pantries are always looking for generous donations to keep their communities fed, and one Internet company is giving to a pantry that works to feed an entire county.
Netlink Wireless Incorporated is donating over 3,000 pounds of food to local food pantries, including the River of Life Church pantry.
Coordinator Pam White says while the company claims it chose the pantry at random, she believes it was an act of God.
"I think that's what God wants us to do," she says.
With the pantry serving 83 families a month, White says every meal is meant to empower.
"It's a hand-up, not a handout. And that's what we're here for, is to help the families and feed them," White says.
Eastland County sits at 18 percent in food insecurity, according to a 2018 survey by Feeding America.
Youth Minister Jonathan Petty says the goal for the pantry is to always meet the need.
"Everybody has to eat, and there's really no limit. If we have the food coming in, we're able to distribute to the people who need it," Petty says.
As the only food pantry in the entire county, Petty says the work done by the pantry helps fills more than bellies.
"The River of Life's Food Pantry really is an opportunity for people to not only volunteer their time, but if they have money, if they have food that they want to donate, or resources that they want to give, it does something in your own heart to help other people" says Petty.
