ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Hopes for a second HEB store in Abilene could be crushed – for now!

Rumors have been circulating about the grocery store opening another location at 6301 and 6381 Buffalo Gap Road for almost a decade.

However, it seemed like the project was recently becoming a reality. In September, HEB filed permits to demo a couple of buildings on the property, but since then, progress has come to a halt.

KTAB and KRBC asked an HEB representative if the new Abilene store was still in the works, and they said, “we have no current plans for an additional Abilene store at this time.”

That’s the same refrain they’ve been giving all along, but for the past decade, it’s held true.

The City of Abilene says they have received no permits from HEB, besides the ones filed for demolition.

So, until something more concrete is announced, it seems the new store remains nothing but a dream.
