ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Two Abilene Christian University basketball players have been dismissed from the team.
Jalone Friday and B.J. Maxwell, both juniors, were dismissed from the team effective immediately, according to a press release sent from the University Thursday afternoon.
The press release didn’t disclose what led to the young men’s dismissals, but ACU did release the following statement regarding what happened:
Two Abilene Christian University men’s basketball student-athletes, juniors Jalone Friday and B.J. Maxwell, have been dismissed immediately from the team for violating university policies and behavior inconsistent with the values of the university.
When asked if there was a criminal investigation involved or if the young men were still enrolled as students, ACU responded, “while we can’t comment on specific student discipline matters, we are committed to maintaining a learning community that reflects the standards guiding our mission and shaping our identity as a Christin University.”
KTAB and KRBC have also asked Abilene police if there is a criminal investigation into Friday and Maxwell. As of 12:15 p.m., they have not responded.
ACU’s website says Friday, an Oklahoma City native, served as a center on the team and Austinite Maxwell was a guard.
