ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Two people were rescued after getting stranded in flood waters at Will Hair Park in north Abilene.

Wednesday morning, Abilene firefighters performed an unusual high water rescue by using their ladder truck to create a bridge across the water at Will Hair.

The pair of stranded Abilene Christian Unversity students drove to a section of the park at 6:30 a.m. when the road was clear, but by the time they were ready to leave, it had flooded.

They say they walked around trying to find a way out, but they were surrounded by water on all sides.

Just after 11:00 a.m., both students successfully walked across the ladder to safety.

A third person was also stranded but decided to stay and wait for the water to die down.
