ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – In an effort to improve road conditions in Abilene, crews from the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) will begin texturing the pavement on Interstate 20 between the city limits.

According to TXDOT, the texturing process will begin Jan. 22, causing intermittent lane closures and reductions in speed during the project.

Officials say texturing the pavement will not only rejuvenate and improve the road’s surface, but that proper surface textures can also prevent vehicles from hydroplaning during wet weather.

The interstate has seen several accidents during recent rainstorms.

Crews will start work on the eastbound side of the interstate before moving on to the westbound lanes.
