YMCA closing north Abilene location, Texas Leadership Charter Academy moving in

Local News

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – YMCA is closing their north Abilene location, which is now set to become a new campus for the Texas Leadership Charter Academy.

Effective July 12, all current members of the YMCA on State Street will be transferred at no cost to the Redbud Park location. However, summer camp will continue until the start of the school year.

The YMCA of Abilene Board of Directors says the decision to close YMCA State Street has been made, “in order to make the most of limited resources and provide programs and services that positively impact the children, families and community we serve.”

In addition to offering all the same amenities as YMCA State Street, YMCA Redbud also has more hours of accessibility and an expanded facility is coming soon.

Texas Leadership Charter Academy will be moving into the State Street building, but it’s unknown when the new campus will open.

Anyone with questions or concerns about the YMCA State Street closure can contact David Hendricks, YMCA CEO, at (325)677-8144.
