15 new storybook benches arrive in Downtown Abilene

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – The Downtown Abilene area just got some new additions for your seating pleasure.

Several donors helped the Abilene Cultural Affairs Council to add 15 new limestone benches with  quotes from books featured at the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature.

These benches will be placed throughout downtown in the Storybook Capital of America and will display a bronze medallion with an image from the book they represent.

The medallions can then be used to create an interactive experience as visitors make rubbings.

“The benches are just another way to build up that Storybook Capital brand, getting people excited when they come downtown to celebrate reading, books, and art,” Sidney Levesque, Marketing Director for Abilene Culture Affairs Council said.

The new seating has arrived just in time for the Children’s Art and Literacy Festival coming up at the beginning of June.
