ABILENE, Texas (KRBC)- Some people that show off their classic cars may look for their awards, but Mark Odom simply looks to brighten people’s day with his little blue truck.
“A little young man came up and said, ‘Momma! Momma! It’s the Little Blue Truck,” said Odom. “And I said ‘Yeah.’ And she says ‘You don’t have kids do you?’ ‘And I said no, I don’t. What’s he talking about?’ She told me about the series for “The Little Blue Truck.” And, so then I started looking for them and I found them at bookstores and kind of added to it. Just added the Halloween one to it this year.”
Odom bought his now bright blue pickup in 1980, and started putting work into it nearly ten years ago.
“[The] motor had seized up since I had it for so long,” said Odom. “We put a new motor in it, got all that got it running good and everything and then took it to the body shop. And, that was about a two year process at the body shop.”
As he has continued his project, he has added more elements of fun to 1949 Ford.
“That’s the reason I’ve put the books out there, so the kids can have something to–cause they’re always told not to touch all this,” said Odom.
Bringing smiles with small unconventional additions, his little blue truck displays an even littler blue truck.
“It is a cooler,” said Odom. “It holds ice and everything. I put fake ice in it just for the show, because it’s easier to take care of. But, that there is another thing that the kids get a big kick out of.”
