86-year-old Brownwood man dies in wet road crash

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – An 86-year-old Brownwood man was killed in crash where a semi-truck jackknifed on wet roads, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). 

DPS said Billy Joy Bennett, 86, of Brownwood, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, an 84-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. 

The crash happened Monday afternoon at about 12:30 on U.S. 67 one mile east of Santa Ann in Coleman County. 

A semi truck was eastbound when it jackknifed on the wet roads, according to DPS. It crossed the center stripe and crashed into a 1998 Lincoln Town Car driven by Bennett and another car driven by an Austin man. 

The two men in the car from Austin were taken to a hospital in stable condition. The driver of the semi was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

DPS said the crash remains under investigation.
