ABILENE, Texas (KTAB) – Eight years after Abilene Police Officer Rodney Holder’s tragic death, his loved ones have a new way to hold him close, as they were presented with a special gift on Tuesday.
Artist Kina Tiemann started her journey eight years ago, when she was struck with inspiration. She decided to create a special painting for Holder’s family. “It wa pretty big.”, she says. “Life just got in the way, and it took me many years to finish it. It ended up being quite a task.”
Holder’s wife, Ann Marie, is supremely impressed with the finished product. “You know, I’ve seen him stand that way so many times. I’ve seen him in that posture, the way he’s holding his pen, everything. That smile, I’ve seen that so many times.”
Police Chief Stan Standridge adds, “It’s remarkable that she was able to take a photo and exactly capture the likeness of that photo, so I can see why it took her so long.”
Tiemann hopes that she was able to capture the spirit of this man who she’s never met. “Everyone says great things, so I hope that I captured his spirit in the painting.”
By all accounts, she certainly did. Son Kyler Holder says that the painting, “Definitely has exceeded my expectations. I mean, I love it. It’s just so beautiful.”
Ann Marie adds, “I’m very, very proud of it. It’s going to be a treasure forever.”
At the very least, this painting captures a truly happy man. “My dad really loved his job.”, says Kyler. “Every time he left the house on that motorcycle, he’d always have a big smile on his face. And every time he’d come home, he’d be so happy.”
