ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – An Abilene High School student was found dead in his hotel room while on a field trip Friday morning.
The 15-year-old freshman student, who will not be identified for privacy reasons, died on a trip in Grapevine.
“Communication with the Grapevine Police Department indicates that there is no evidence of foul play or that the student had any intention of harming himself,” according to a press release from Abilene ISD.
The exact cause of death has not been determined, as an investigation is ongoing. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy.
Counseling was immediately provided to students and staff who were also on the trip, with aid from Grapevine-Colleyville ISD, as well as Abilene ISD administration and personnel who traveled to Grapevine.
Abilene ISD released a statement on the death, which reads in part, “our prayers go out the family, to his friends and fellow students and to the entire AHS Eagle community. We ask you please respect the family’s privacy as they deal with this tragic loss.”
