ABILENE, Texas (KRBC) – It was an exciting early morning at Dyess Elementary School, kicking off a new school year.

With pencils in hand, students are meeting their new classmates and beginning their new experiences. One parent, Michelle Peacock, said she’s ready to see what her child will learn and explore.

“[Dyess] is a good school,” Peacock said. “They’re really focused on letting him succeed. And, anything that they can do, you know, if I express my concerns, they’re on top of it to take care of it for him. I’m ready to see what he learns this year, and what new adventures he’ll be able to go on. He’s ready and geared up for it.”

First grade teacher Waler Muzaurieta, along with the entire staff at Dyess, prepared for weeks for this special day.

“Great grade level team that I work with here at Dyess and very excited,” Muzaurieta said. “Excited to have a new group of students and we have a lot of things in store for them. It’s going to be a great year I believe.”

Muzaurieta said there are ways for parents to ensure the rest of the school year is as great as the first day.

“Stay excited,” said Muzaurieta. “Keep them positive. Keep encouraging them in case they have some moments where it’s not so exciting [or] they may be having a hard time.
