Abilene police arrest accused front porch package thief

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Abilene police have arrested a woman accused of stealing packages from multiple south side homes.

Sharmila Ramachandran, 46, was taken into custody Tuesday and charged with Possession of Identifying Information, Tampering with Evidence, and issued her a theft citation. 

A citizen on the 3100 block of Salinas Drive came forward and gave police surveillance footage of one of his neighbors, later identified as Ramachandran, stealing a package from his home, according to a press release from the Abilene Police Department. 

Court documents state that “in further investigation, the victim spoke with several neighbors who had also been victims of theft of packages from their porches”. 

After executing a search warrant, the documents state several packages and mail belonging to residents in the neighborhood was discovered in Ramachandran’s home.

Ramachandran was released from the Taylor County Jail after posting bonds totaling over $22,000.
