ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Special guests were in attendance at a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Abilene Regional Medical Center (ARMC) serving the people of Abilene and the Big Country.

Guests such as Abilene Mayor Anthony Williams and a representative of Congressman Jodey Arrington were present as the medical center reflected on and celebrated its half-century of providing medical care to the area.

The hospital was originally named the West Texas Medical Center when it was first established in 1968. Two years later, the facility would complete the first heart catherization and open-heart surgery in the Abilene area.
