ABILENE, Texas (KTAB) – Thousands of teachers across the nation are celebrating after a San Francisco crypto-currency company announced they will fund 35,000 classroom projects for teachers.
The announcement was made last week that Ripple would fund any project that teachers had open on DonorsChoose.org. A teacher inAbilene is one sharing in the $29 million project.
Madison Middle School theater teacher Tiffany McLeod had a project open to get new microphones for her students. The grant was just under $800. A normal Tuesday night for her was changed ofter watching a late night talk show.
“On that show he announced that every active grant with DonorsChoose had been fulfilled by a single donor,” McLeod says.
She says she was in such shock she had to rewind it to hear it again.
“I had to pinch myself and then ran it back and watched it again just because I couldn’t believe it,” she says
McLeod says she theater is very important to hear and she’s thankful Ripple chose to fund projects for all teachers instead of just certain subjects.
“They didn’t pick and choose,” she says. “They didn’t say we want to support science, or we want to support math, we want to support all teachers who have causes they believe are important for their students.”
Now, her theater students will get new microphones that wil lhelp boost their performances to the next level.
“It means a lot for us to be able to have that professional equipment as young as we are to be able to put on an authentic professional production,” seventh grade student McKenna Cluck says.
They already know the first show they’ll perform with the new equipment.
“I’m really excited to audition for Peter Pan next year. I feel like that’s going to be a really cool experience,” sixth grade student Ian Martin says.
“We just want to say thank you,” McLeod says to Ripple.
