BELTON, Texas (KWKT/KYLE) – A shooting at the Bell County Expo Center has left police asking the public to be more careful.

Sunday afternoon a gun show vendor was showing someone a gun when the weapon accidently discharged.

Deputies say the bullet went up in the ceiling and thankfully did not hurt anyone on its way down.

The vendor was asked to leave following the incident, however deputies say incidents like these can quickly escalate into something much worse.

“These guys are dealers and they deal with guns all the time and even they had an accident,” said Major T.J. Cruz of the Bell Co. Sheriff’s Dept, “This was an isolated incident but it’s very important to point out always treat a gun like it’s loaded.”

It’s unclear why the vendor had the handgun loaded since only ammunition brought in the original box is allowed.
