ABILENE, TX (KTAB) – The Baby Room at St.Mark’s Episcopal Church is ready for a donation delivery following Abilene Gives next Tuesday.
The nonprofit began in 2008 and is estimated to have provided thousands of area families with the essentialls needed for babies and small children like: clothing, food, diapers, car seats and strollers.
“It just makes us feel good to be able to know that these children have some nice clothing and the big items they need to be safe and for development,” said Peggy Valentine, a Deacon at St. Mark’s and founder of The Baby Room.
Last year the nonprofit raised about $900 during the Community Foundation of Abilene’s annual donation drive, but, as Valentine shares, the costs of caring for children adds up quickly.
“This last Wednesday we gave away more than 2,000 diapers, [that’s] about $400,” said Valentine.
But it’s the community support and fatih that keeps Valentine and her volunteer’s coming back to the church to help families in need.
“This is about the time of year that things become stressed [Abilene Gives] comes along and helps a bunch,” said Valentine. “And it’s with the grace of God that we’ve been able to sustain and provide.”
