BROWNWOOD, Texas (KTAB) – Hometown boy Coffey Anderson came back to Brown County to perform in front of a hometown crowd Friday. But first, he stopped by the Early Chamber of Commerce to say hello and put on a small show.
Coffey came from humble roots in Bangs. “I took this guitar and started playing simple little campfire praise and worship songs at Howard Payne.”, he remembers. “It turned into wanting to do more than just sing in church.”
That’s just what happened. Appearances on American Idol and Nashville helped push Coffey into the spotlight. His father remembers the times before that, when they “were short on money.” They had to hunt rabbits for their dinner. “That’s just how it works sometimes.”
Preparing to play in Brownwood, Coffey says that he’s glad to be a part of something big back home. “What you’re doing, I just want to tell you, from the bottom of my heart, ‘Thank you.’ I grew up here. It means a lot to have entertainment brought here.”
Coffey played at the Oasis in Brownwood on Friday night.
