RISING STAR, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A Big Country hog hunt held to benefit the victims and volunteers affected by Hurricane Harvey ended with over 1,200 pounds of cooked wild game! 

Organizer Scott Hayley told KTAB and KRBC 100 volunteers and donors, 50 hog hunters, and a team of 11 volunteers caravanned down to Port Aransas Tuesday and served all 1,200 pounds of wild hog that was processed and packaged in Rising Star. 

The team then bought and cooked briskets and pork butts to bring to Rockport Wednesday, where they were able to serve all the food they had donated.

Hayley says, “In both communities, we were met by hungry and extremely thankful residents and workers. Some people had absolutely nothing. Even living out of their vehicles. We were able to help give folks food, needed supplies, and even monetary donations. The mission was a so much of a moving experience that we are now working on a second mission.”

The hunt took place in Rising Star Saturday, and the following day, members from across the community cooked the donated meat, which was then processed at Full Drew Legends Taxidermy and Wild Game Processing.
