Brownwood woman killed in Brown County vehicle collision

BROWN COUNTY, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – One woman was killed in a two-vehicle collision Tuesday afternoon just north of Brownwood, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

The collision occurred Tuesday at approximately 4:00 p.m. along South Highway 279, according to DPS. 

Judy Delosantos Baker, 63, of Brownwood was riding passenger with one other person in a 2009 Ford Explorer traveling northwest on 279 as the two came to a stop at the intersection of 279 and County Road 134, according to DPS. As it turned left, their vehicle came in front of a Dodge pickup traveling southeast along 279 and was struck on the right side.

Both vehicles went off the West side of the road, caught fire and burned, according to DPS. 

Baker was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle Baker was riding in was transported to Parkland Hospital in Dallas with serious injuries, according to DPS. 

The driver of the Dodge pickup was transported to Brownwood Regional Hospital with minor injuries. All three occupants involved were wearing seatbelts, according to DPS.

This incident is under investigation.
