City of Abilene creates year-round bulk disposal site

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – The City of Abilene has created a place for citizens to dispose of bulky items like furniture, fencing, and carpeting year-round.

The Citizens Convenience Station, located at 2149 Sandy Street, is a self-serving disposal station that will allow Abilene residents to dispose of the following items free of charge after a grand opening on August 2nd: 

  • Bulky items
  • Furniture
  • Mattresses
  • Carpeting (limit 2 rolls per visit)
  • Wood fencing (limit 50 feet per visit)

The following items will not be accepted:

  • Materials hauled from commercial establishments, residential property, or government sites
  • Concrete
  • Bricks
  • Rock 
  • Singles
  • Sheetrock
  • Tile
  • Food, paper, etc. 

After the grand opening, the Citizens Convenience Station will be open each Wednesday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Anyone who wishes to utilize the station must make sure their haul is the size of one pickup bed or less and everyone must unload their own materials.

The station is accessible to Abilene residents only, so anyone who wishes to use it must also present a driver’s license along with a current City of Abilene water bill.
