ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A suspect accused of shooting and killing an Abilene man during a love triangle situation confessed to the crime during a police interview, according to court documents.

After detectives recovered a truck seen fleeing the scene of a fatal shooting on the 2400 block of Hardy Street in June, the documents state suspect George Almanza “was later located and interviewed, during which time he confirmed that he had used said truck in the commission of committing the murder.”

Police are now searching the truck and Almanza’s cell phone for evidence.

Detectives believe Almanza went to the home to confront his wife and her boyfriend, Arthur Cantu Jr., 37, and during the confrontation, Cantu was shot multiple times and killed, according to Chief Standridge.

Almanza was arrested and charged with Murder a few hours after the shooting occurred.

The shotgun used in the shooting, which may be sawed-off, may still have not been recovered and police are asking people to leave it alone if they come across it.

“If this murder weapon should be found, please do not disturb it and call us immediately,” Chief Standridge implores.

KTAB and KRBC will continue to follow this investigation, getting updates for BigCountryHomepage as the latest information is released.
